The Southampton College men's lacrosse team got their first league win of the season on Saturday with an easy 15-11 triumph over Molloy.

The win put the Colonials, ranked No. 6 in the nation in NCAA Div. II, back on track after an upset home loss, 13-9, to No. 8 West Chester on April 10 in their league opener.

Against Molloy, the Colonials came out tentatively but as time went on they began to settle in and play the type of game they are capable of. D.J. Ortiz paced the Colonials with five goals. Jamie Fabian contributed with four goals and four assists. Tim Goger had three goals and two assists, while senior co-captain Chris Shiefer had two goals.

NYCAC HONORS:: On April 8, DJ Ortiz was named Player of the Week and Jay Selleck was named Goaltender of the Week by the NYCAC.

The Colonials were not all offense; the defense came up big when needed. Sophomores Joe Cea and Andreas Nilsson both had four strips each, while senior co-captain Mark Carlson had three. In the cage, Jay Selleck racked up 15 saves. Coach Ralph Pepe was glad to see his team regroup after the West Chester loss. "The guys responded perfectly," he said. "This was a team that we knew we could beat, and we came out tougher and with more heart, and in the end won the game."

Molloy is currently 2-4 overall (0-3 NYCAC), while Southampton College's record stands at 4-1 overall (1-1 NYCAC). Their next game is Saturday, April 20, at NYIT.
