The Institute for Sustainable Development of Long Island University will host a Solar Energy seminar on Saturday, November 23 at 11:00 a.m. in the Duke Lecture Hall of Southampton College. Jonathan Lane, the president of Quad State Solar, will be the presenter.

The public is invited to learn about clean solar technology, environmental benefits, rebate programs, and the U.S. Department of Energy's Million Solar Roofs Initiative. The Initiative's goal is one million solar roofs nationwide by 2010. The Long Island chapter of the Solar Roofs Initiative has a local goal of 10,000 solar roofs on Long Island by 2010.

The Institute for Sustainable Development is working with Quad State Solar and the Long Island Power Authority's Solar Pioneer Program to explore ways to enhance the Solar Roofs Initiative.

"The purpose of the collaboration is to try to make solar energy a reality on Long Island by removing barriers and educating the public," said Professor Scott Carlin, co-director of the Institute for Sustainable Development.

The solar seminar is co-sponsored by the Institute for Sustainable Development, Quad State Solar, and the Long Island Power Authority's Solar Pioneer Program. It is free and open to the public. Space is limited, so please call (800) 692-2626 to make reservations or visit http://www.lipower.org/solar. Contact Christina Hamm at (631) 287-8109 for more information.
