The Southampton College men's volleyball team snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-0 (30-19, 30-19, 30-21) sweep of visiting New Haven on Friday. The Colonials, who have had trouble securing victories since losing star player Joe Daigler to injury, improved their record to 5-14 overall.

The Colonials came out with fire and attacked all the way through the contest, taking a lead in each match and never looking back.

Senior captain and middle hitter Pete Wawrzyniak powered the Colonials with 13 kills out of 14 attempts. Sophomore Jeff Vaikness and junior Scott Schult, both middle hitters, had strong games with 13 and 12 kills respectively. Schult also led the team with six digs, while freshman Ionut Ghira had 49 assists on the night.

Schult, a co-captain, felt that this win is an important step towards winning more games. "We played well as a team and finished strong," he added.

The win was relief for the Colonials, who had lost several close matches in recent weeks without Daigler, a junior outside hitter who is out with stress fractures in the shin.

The Colonials play their last home game of the season on Saturday at 2 p.m. vs. East Stroudsburg University.
