Southampton College's Avram Gallery will open its summer season on Saturday, May 25 with paintings by artist Joan Miller. The exhibition will feature recent works of acrylics on canvas.

Miller, who is based in New York City, relishes the challenge of representing movement in her works, an area of interest to both the early 20th century futurists and the abstract expressionists of the 1950s. She is a graduate of the Tyler School of Art at Temple University.

Miller has had numerous East-End and New York City solo exhibits. Her works have also been part of many group shows around the country and in traveling exhibits in France and Canada, as well as at The Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Italy. Some of her paintings are in the collections of the Butler Institute in Youngstown, OH, The Slater Memorial Museum in Norwich, CT, the Philadelphia Museum of Art Lending Library and private collections in the United States and abroad.

The works will remain on view through June 14. A reception will be held on Saturday, May 25 at 2:00 p.m. Gallery hours are Monday through Sunday, noon to 5:00 p.m., or by appointment. For information about the exhibition, please call Gallery Director Beth Giles at (631) 287-8234.
