As part of NATO's (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) public information efforts, two senior military officers will visit Southampton College to discuss current issues and changes in today's security environment. The event is scheduled for Thursday, October 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the College's Avram Theater.

The NATO briefing team, Lieutenant Colonel Hendrik van der Gaag and U.S. Navy Captain (Select) Edward J. Martin, Jr., was organized in the early 1980s in response to requests for information from the North American public. The team visits colleges and other organizations every year to discuss the history of the alliance, its mission, risk challenges and other areas of interest.

Among the topics to be discussed will be September 11 and its impact on NATO, current events in the Balkans, NATO's new strategy for managing peace and dealing with crises, and its relationship with other security organizations.
