- As the Runnin' Colonials begin their 2002-2003 season, they are concentrated on one thing: defending their title as the ECAC champions. Their quest to return as one of the elite teams in the New York Athletic Conference has been jump started by the announcement at the end of September that senior Eric Bradley, a resident of Middletown, N.Y., and juniors Billy Mandell, of Revere, M.A., and Jye Watson, of Warrnambool, Aus., were named to the NABC Academic Honor Roll.
The NABC Academic Honor roll consists of juniors and seniors who maintain a grade point average of at least 3.2. Bradley, Watson, and Mandell were selected to the list of over 500 student-athletes from Division I, II, and III. These Colonials make up three-quarters of the students named to the Honor Roll from the NYCAC.
Bradley, known for his 6-9 frame and solid contributions to the Colonials on both offense and defense, has played in over 80 games during his collegiate career; he has started over half of those games. During his junior year, Bradley produced a solid stat-line of six points and six rebounds a game. One of his best performances was against NYIT when he scored 20m points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Bradley is one of the Colonials' captains this season. In addition to being a leader on the court, Bradley volunteers for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island. He also participates in the graphic design of the College's newspaper, The Windmill. Bradley is majoring in Public Relations with a minor in Marketing and Management.
Watson, a 6'4 shooting guard has created a solid reputation for himself in the two years he has played for Southampton. During his freshman year he averaged 15 points a game; he was the second leading scorer on the team, falling only behind First Team All-Metro forward Jason Lewis. His sophomore year, Watson averaged over 15 minutes a game and poured in 7.7 points in limited time. He led the NYCAC in three-point shooting, with making 40% of his attempts. He is majoring in Education.
Mandell is majoring in Accounting, with a minor in Finance. This 6'2 guard has averaged 12 minutes a game and just over 5 points a contest. He has lead the Colonials in scoring four times. Mandell is most know for his tough defense and his long range shooting abilities. His athletic highlight is when he hit five three-pointers in the first half of a home game against C.W. Post.
