Southampton College's student newspaper, The Windmill, took five honors in this year's Newsday School Journalism Awards competition, marking the best performance in the school's history.

The Windmill won more awards than any other Long Island college, with first place going to Scott Clark for Typography and Layout and Bryan Mesenbourg for Photography. Clark also received second place for Commentary and third place for Editorial Cartooning, with another third place going to Dennis O'Connor for Local News/History.

Advised by communications professor Dr. Jerry Domatob, The Windmill newspaper has seen a resurgence in popularity at Southampton College, with over 30 students participating each semester and issues now up to 20 pages in size.

Newsday will hold a special reception for all Suffolk middle, high school and college winners on Tuesday, May 1, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in their Melville location.
