Fax: (631) 283 4081The works of Kate Simon, a BFA candidate at Southampton College of Long Island University, will be on display at the Avram Gallery December 10-15.
"Retinal Reality" aims to capture its viewer's attention by offering a perception of reality that entices the imagination and senses.
"The combination of natural forms with the human figure is my main focus," said Simon. "This fusion presents the idea that everything in nature has a spirit, sometimes conspicuously and other times obscurely. It is through my paintings that this spirit becomes tangible. Thus, the viewer is led to question whether or not an expression of true reality is on the canvas."
Simon originally came to Southampton College to major in Marine Biology. After two years of study, she decided to tap into her artistic side and study her hobby of drawing and painting. While working toward her BFA degree, Kate exhibited her works in the members exhibit at Guild Hall and dabbled in photography, which will also be featured at Avram.
A reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, December 15th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend. The Gallery is open weekdays 12-5 p.m. and by appointment; please call (631) 287-8234 for more information.
