Shark Habits Covered in Marine Science Lecture

Research Behaviorist Comes to Southampton College on November 15

Dr. Peter Klimley, an Associate Research Behaviorist at The Bodega Marine Laboratory of The University of California at Davis, will speak at Southampton College on Thursday, November 15, 2001 at 6:30 p.m. His talk ?The Predatory Strategy of White Sharks at a Seal Colony? is part of the John P. McGrath Seminar Series.

Dr. Klimley, the author of Great White Sharks: The Biology of Carcharodon carcharias, is well-known for his research in great white shark behavior and conservation. He is also a general behavioral ecologist of marine vertebrates, especially fish and sharks. He has developed computer-decoded telemetry and automated data logging techniques and has evaluated archival tags for salmon management. He has an extensive list of publications on Lemon, Hammerhead and Great White Sharks.

Klimley has been a frequent guest on television and radio shows devoted to sharks and has made numerous films including several for National Geographic and the Public Broadcasting Service.

The seminar is sponsored by the John P. McGrath Fund of Long Island University and the Marine Science Club of Southampton College. It will take place in the Business Center Lecture Hall and is open to the public. For further information please call (631)287-8399.
