Southampton College Women's Soccer Sweeps League Awards
Top Player, Rookie and Coach Are All Colonials
Southampton, NY - The Southampton Colonials women's soccer team swept the top three awards in balloting for the 2001 New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) All-Conference team that was announced this afternoon.
Midfielder Begga Laxdal won Player of the Year and forward Asa Birgersdotter captured Rookie of the Year honors, while Colonials' head coach Mark Dawson was chosen Coach of the Year. Finishing third in the NYCAC with an 8-2 conference mark, Southampton and Adelphi led all NYCAC schools with five overall selections.
Laxdal and Birgersdotter were tabbed as First Team selections, with Laxdal achieving a rare distinction by being selected as the top midfielder by each school voting.
