Fax: (631) 283 4081The 21st Century Issues Lecture Series, sponsored by Southampton College of Long Island University, will close its summer series with "Milton Steinberg: An American Rabbi" with David Steinberg, Rabbi's Steinberg's son and Long Island University President, on Sunday, August 19th.
David Steinberg, Ph.D., became the ninth president of Long Island University in 1985 and presides over the nation's eighth largest private university. Long Island University is comprised of Southampton College, C.W. Post, a downtown Brooklyn Campus, regional campuses in Brentwood, Rockland County, Westchester County, and eight world-wide academic centers of the Friends World Program.
Under Steinberg's leadership, the university has become a doctoral institution, endowment has risen from $4.4 million to nearly $36 million, and the University has undertaken more than $175 million in new construction and major renovation.
Dr. Steinberg was born in New York City, the son of the late Rabbi Milton Steinberg of the Park Avenue Synagogue. He earned his B.A. and M.A. in East Asian Studies, and a Ph.D. in History from Harvard University and is the author of numerous works on Southeast Asian and Philippine history. He began his teaching career at the University of Michigan and served as Vice President and University Secretary at Brandeis University prior to joining Long Island University.
The lecture will take place at The Jewish Center of the Hamptons, 44 Woods Lane, East Hampton at 5:00 p.m. It is free and open to the public with a reception to follow. For more information, call (631) 287-8477.
