In poll results released Oct. 29 by the sport's governing body, the Colonials were ranked No. 23 in the USA. The Colonials haven't been nationally ranked since the first week of the season, when they were No. 19.
The Colonials last home game is Oct. 31, at 3 p.m. vs. Bloomfield. Team seniors will be saluted at 2:45 p.m. including forward Peter Nilsson, whose two goals at CW Post on Oct. 27 set a new single-season record (24) on campus. The previous record (22) was set two years ago by Johan Kron.
The Colonials won 2-0, avenging a stalemate from last year when CW Post scored with less than a minute left in the game. The men will wrap up their third straight NYCAC title if they win at Bridgeport on Nov. 3. Bridgeport is one of the league's top teams and ranked No. 5 in the Northeast. The Colonials are 10-3-2, 6-0-1 league.
The Southampton women also have 10 wins (10-4, 7-2). The two teams haven't both had double-digit victories in the same season since 1991.
The Lady Colonials are ranked No. 8 in the Northeast Region and are powered by two strikers who are challenging the campus' single-season women's record of goals scored. Forward Asa Birgersdotter has 18 goals while midfielder/forward Begga Laxdal has 17. The college record is 21 goals in a season, set in 1995 by Allison Mullen.
At Molloy on Oct. 27, Birgersdotter scored twice and dished out two assists as the Colonials won 6-0. Anna Frank made four saves in her second consecutive shutout.
The Lady Colonials' last home game is Thursday, Nov. 1, vs. New Haven. The Lady Colonials end the year at Bridgeport on Nov. 3.
