Southampton College's 21st Century Issues Continues with People, Cars & Ecology - Their Impact on the East End

The "21st Century Issues" Lecture Series, sponsored by Southampton College of Long Island University, will present "People, Cars & Ecology : Their Impact on the East End" with James Larocca, Keyspan Distinguished Professor of Public Policy, Long Island University on Sunday, August 5th.

After earning his B.A. from Hofstra University and his J.D. from Catholic University Law School, Larocca has enjoyed a diverse career in government and politics, business, the law, and academe. He served in the cabinets of two New York governors (as Commissioner of Energy and Commissioner of Transportation) and as President of the Long Island Association, the region's largest business and civic organization. He currently serves as Chairman of the Long Island Nature Conservancy, is an award-winning playwright, is a combat veteran of Vietnam, and in 1998 was a candidate for the Governor of New York. In April 2001, Larocca was named Dean of Southampton College, and he will assume his duties on September 1, 2001. Larocca's lecture will be followed by ?Milton Steinberg: An American Rabbi with David Steinberg, Rabbi Steinberg's son and Long Island University President on Sunday, August 19th. The lectures will take place at The Jewish Center of the Hamptons, 44 Woods Lane, East Hampton at 5:00 p.m. They are free and open to the public with receptions to follow.
