From Havana to Rural Villages; New Culture Course to CubaSouthampton College Offers Travel Program to Members of the Public

Fax: (631) 283 4081The fabled capital of Havana and Cuba's rural villages will be the site of a new Film, Arts and Culture course offered by Southampton College of Long Island University. This two-week travel course, scheduled for January, is the fourth winter trip sponsored by the College, joining a tropical marine biology course in the South Pacific, field studies in biology and environmental science in Central America, and a trip to Costa Rica to study wild dolphins.
The Cuba trip will introduce students to Cuba's painting, graphic design, architecture, literature, dance and film cultures. One week will be spent in Havana, and one week in rural Cuba, including a trip to a communal ecological center. An analysis of law and legal processes in the Cuban Socialist system, including visits to the Ministry of Justice, the National Union of Jurists and a provincial court will also be included. In addition to participating in presentations and workshops, student will prepare a creative journal about their response to Cuba's unique culture.
