Late Fall Offerings From The Continuing Studies Department

The Continuing Studies Department at Southampton College will offer three new programs starting this month.

Re-Viewing Prized Films: 1930-1949

The Academy Award winning films of the thirties and forties are cinema treasures that continue to capture the interest of film historians and delight film-goers. Scenes from many classic films including "Gone with the Wind" and "Casablanca" will be discussed. These lectures will focus on the various films, actors, directors, and supporting players of this era. The course is offered on Fridays, October 26 through November 30 from 7-9 p.m. Enrollment is $85.

Project SAVE School Violence Prevention Workshop

Applicants for a certificates in administrative, supervisory, classroom teaching and pupil personnel service are required to complete at least two hours of course work or training in school violence prevention and intervention in accordance with section 3004 of the Education Law. The course will be held on Tuesday, October 23 from 4-6 p.m. Enrollment is $45.

Interior Design - Do It Yourself!

Sari Mainzer, a member of the American Society of Interior Designers, will teach you how to organize rooms using your current belongings. She has a highly rational, step-by-step approach where you'll lay out a floor plan with pictures of furniture you've cut from shelter magazines. "Once you see it on paper," she says, "you realize how objects and colors need to balance off each other. Mainzer will also discuss furniture styles and periods, choosing upholstery and the basics of lighting. This course will be offered on Thursdays from October 25 through November 15 from 6-8 p.m. Enrollment is $150.
