Ferry is a visiting professor of Fine Arts and Media from England through a partnership program Southampton College, NY, has with University of Southampton, England. His mixed-media works, such as the ones he will exhibit here, often take a farcical look at English history.
Ferry, who heads the Winchester School of Art, has been at Southampton College since October while also guest lecturing at NYU, Arizona State University and the Art Institute of Chicago. In March, he heads back to the U.K. with a scholarship to document popular tourist destinations there and their historical significance.
His Southampton College show runs through February 28 in the Avram Gallery. A meet-the-artist reception will be held Thursday, February 15, from 4-6 p.m., in the gallery. Call (631) 287-8234 for details.
In Professor John Reilly's Film Theory class at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21, Ferry will also screen and discuss his favorite movie, the British cult comedy "WithNail and I." The event takes place in Duke Lecture Hall and is free and open to the public.
