Fax: (631) 283 4081The Center for Creative Retirement (CCR) of Southampton College, Long Island University, is sponsoring an East End Authors Talk Series on Thursdays this fall. This past week Valerie Heller, wife of acclaimed author Joseph Heller ("Catch 22") spoke to the Center's members about her husband's fascinating life and writing career.
The remainder of the talks will take place on Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 am. in Room 214 of the Montauk Building. Please call (631)287-8316 for reservations.
The schedule of authors includes:
October 4 - Kaylie Jones, author of "Celeste Ascending" and a faculty member at Southampton College will speak about her own work.
October 18 - Dolly Kremer will discuss the works of E.L. Doctorow ("Ragtime," "Billy Bathgate," "Welcome to Hard Times")
November 1 - Indira Ganesan, a writing professor at Southampton College and author of "The Journey" and "Inheritance" will speak about her own work.
November 15 - Cynthia Fecteau, CCR's Director, will open a discussion on the books of James Brady.
November 29 - Shirley DeCara will talk about the works of Shana Alexander ("Happy Days: My Mother, My Father, My Sister & Me," and "The Astonishing Elephant")
December 13 - Dava Sobel author of "Galileo's Daughter " and "Longitude" will discuss her own work.
The Center for Creative Retirement was founded in 1981 for retired men and women of the East End to expand their horizons and enrich their lives through mental stimulation, cultural development and social interaction. It was the first Institute for Learning in Retirement in Suffolk County. The Center offers a full range of courses by members, creative workshops and bus trips to historical and ecological sites, as well as outreach programs for the general community.
