Auditions for the Southampton Players' summer musical, "Cabaret," will be held Wednesday and Thursday, April 4 and 5 at 6 p.m. in Southampton College's Avram Theater.

The award-winning Kander and Ebb musical is based upon Christopher Isherwood's "The Berlin Stories" and John Van Druten's subsequent play, "I Am the Camera." "Cabaret" first thrilled audiences in 1966 under the direction of Harold Prince.

This production, which includes text and music from the 1987 Prince revival, will be directed and choreographed by Michael Disher. Performances will run June 15-17 and 22-24.

Southampton Players standout Gemma Breithaupt will star as Sally Bowles. Available roles include six cabaret boys, six cabaret girls, Fraulein Schneider, Herr Schultz, Fraulein Kost, Ernst Ludwig, four young boys ages 10 to 12, orchestra members and, of course, the Master of Ceremonies. Singers should come prepared with either a Kander and Ebb tune or a 1930's torch/cabaret tune in their key. Musicians should bring their instruments. Male and female dancers should bring shorts and sleeveless tops to work in. As always, dance shoes are required. For further information call 631-287-8088.

Disher notes: " 'Cabaret' depicts a country's innocence at the height of its debauchery. All efforts will be made to recreate this era as accurately as possible."
