Top local neuroscience and psychology researchers will host a free seminar aimed at educators, school administrators, students and parents, titled "A Guide to a Healthy Brain Through Positive Learning"

Speakers include Dr. Paul Forestell, Director of the Psychobiology Program of Southampton College of Long Island University; Dr. John C. Neill, who is Associate Prof. of Psychology at Southampton College and an Instructor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School; and Dr. Dave Roll of the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program of C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. The seminar is part of a weeklong workshop on Psychobiology, and is open to the public at no charge.

It will be held on Wednesday, August 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Duke Lecture Hall, located in Chancellors Hall, Southampton College. Refreshments will follow in the Kanas Lobby of Chancellors Hall. Please call 631-287-8175 for more information.

In the past few decades, areas of science such as psychology, psychobiology and neuroscience have created an enormous amount of new data concerning effective behavioral methods for living longer, healthier lives. This free seminar will teach scientifically supported methods for creating a healthy brain and body, from infancy through late adulthood. Techniques of positive behavioral interventions and their beneficial effects on the brain and body will be illustrated and can be useful for parenting, teaching, business and in all other walks of life.

Each year, Southampton College also sponsors an exciting Brain Bee competition about Psychobiology for high school students. Several students attending this Psychobiology workshop were awarded scholarships for winning the 2001 Brain Bee last March. A brief explanation on how to enter and win the 2002 Southampton College Brain Bee Scholarship Competition will be described at the seminar.
