Meanwhile, Southampton Players Ready for "Interact" Weekends

Southampton, NY - The Southampton Players, a troupe composed of local actors and Southampton College students, will soon cast their spring production of "Look Homeward, Angel."

Auditions will be held Monday and Tuesday, February 5-6 at 6 p.m. in Southampton College's Avram Theater. Actors should be prepared with a one-minute monologue. Appointments are necessary. Call director Michael Disher at (631) 287-8088. Performances will be held March 22-24 and 29-31.

Currently, the Southampton Players are continuing the tradition begun last year when several short plays came out of famed cartoonist Jules Feiffer's Humor and Truth class. "InterAct: Stories of Color" again brings the words of MFA in Writing students to life on stage in a series of intertwined one-acts. It runs Jan. 26-27 and February 2-3 at 8 p.m. Tickets, $8 each, are available at the door or by calling (631) 287-8480. The spring production of "Look Homeward, Angel" is inspired by Thomas Wolfe's book, and won playwright Ketty Frings a 1958 Pulitzer Prize.

"Look Homeward, Angel" has a cast of 20 (11 male, nine female), with characters ranging from 17 to 60 years old. The drama is a moving coming-of-age story about Eugene Gant, a restless and energetic character whose passion to experience life takes him from his small, rural hometown in North Carolina to Harvard University and the city of Boston at the turn of the century. The play's pattern is artfully simple - a small town, a large family, high school and college - yet the characters are monumental in their graphic individuality and personality.
