Southampton College of Long Island University hosts Match Day in May from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island.

The event takes place on the College's front lawn rain or shine. Sponsored by Met Life, Snoopy will also make a visit. There will be food and refreshments, Olympic-style games and a 45-foot inflatable obstacle course provided by Bounce USA. The event is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted, including used clothing of any size. Call 631-287-0086 for more information.

The event aims to celebrate mentoring relationships that have been created through Southampton College, high school programs in Hampton Bays, Riverhead and Sag Harbor, and community-based matches.

Last week, Southampton College's Teresa Stewart was named Long Island's Student Volunteer of the Year by Big Brother Big Sisters at a ceremony in Plainview. Eighteen other Southampton College students are also involved in the program, which is the only one of its kind on Long Island. "Bigs" and their "littles," who come from Southampton and Hampton Bays, use the College's facilities to design pottery, bake cookies, play sports and study marine life.
