Southampton College junior basketball forward Jason Lewis was named to the Division II All Metro Team by the NIT/Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association today.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound forward from Roosevelt, NY, led the Runnin' Colonials in scoring and rebounds with 19.8 points and 8.9 boards per game. In the competitive New York Collegiate Athletic Conference, he ranked third in scoring and second in boards. His .556 field-goal and .702 free-throw percentages ranked fifth and 11th respectively in the NYCAC. On January 31 vs. CW Post, Lewis scored his 1000th career point and currently ranks 11th in Runnin' Colonials history in scoring. He is on pace to eclipse 1000 rebounds next season.

Lewis, who was named captain this past year, has been an iron man for a Runnin' Colonials squad that has seen a lot of transition at other positions. In 1999-2000, he averaged a double-double for the season with 15.0 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. This past season, as the Runnin' Colonials lost player after player, Lewis upped his game offensively as the team went 9-17, narrowly missing a playoff berth.

"He has a great repertoire of moves, and he always seems to get open around the ball," said Coach Charlie Peck. "He can get the job done. That's why we made him a captain."
