Writers Talk Series Features Novelist and Poetry Editor

Fax: (631) 283 4081Southampton, N.Y. - Southampton College of Long Island University hosts Katharine Washburn as part of its Writers Talk series of readings and lectures. Washburn is an accomplished poetry and essay editor and translator. She is penning her first novel.
Sponsored by Southampton College's MFA in Writing program, the event will be held on Wednesday, February 16, at 8 p.m. in the Duke Lecture Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. Washburn is best known as a top editor. Her most recent books include "Norton World Poetry, An Anthology of Verse from Antiquity to Our Time" (WW Norton, 1998) and "Tongues of Angels, Tongues of Men, A Book of Sermons" (Doubleday, 1999). She's finishing her first novel, "The Translator's Apology." Washburn's talk will be multi-focused, dealing with translations, her anthology of world poetry and her novel, where a translator's invention and imagination intersect with the past and the present of literature.
