Fax: (631) 283 4081John Ruggieri, a BFA candidate at Southampton College of Long Island University, is planning a solo exhibition of his work at the Avram Gallery December 10-16. The Gallery will be showcasing Ruggieri's study of the College campus, a place he has gotten to know intimately as an artist.
"I paint a campus that is easily overlooked," said Ruggieri. "A utility shed, the back of a building; places that are not traditional themes of painting. "

By spending time on campus painting from life, I have made a few friends. People took an interest in what I was doing. These people shared stories about themselves and the campus.
"I was able to push the paint and achieve some great effects unique to oil paints."
Ruggieri, originally from the Patchogue-Medford area, transferred to Southampton College in 1997 to work towards a Bachelor in Art. During his senior year, he was able to travel abroad to Australia where he exhibited in three group shows. When he returned, he completed the requirements for a Bachelor in Fine Arts, and has been simultaneously studying at the Long Island Academy of Art in Riverhead.
Two receptions are planned for Ruggieri's show - Wednesday, December 13, 3-5 p.m. and Saturday, December 16, 2-4 p.m.?both of which are open to the public. The Gallery is open weekdays 12-5 p.m. and by appointment; please call (631) 287-8234 for more information.
