HOMECOMING 2000 at Southampton College of Long Island University is scheduled for the weekend of October 27-29 and will feature an open house and special events for prospective students and their parents plus a variety of activities for alumni and families of currents students.

The weekend's activities will provide an excellent opportunity to learn first-hand about Southampton's many outstanding programs. Participants can meet faculty and staff, ask questions about the application process or financial aid, take guided tours of the 110-acre campus, learn about academic majors and experiential education opportunities, and attend several varsity athletic games.

For alumni, the weekend begins with the Provost's Reception on Friday evening in Kanas Lobby, Chancellors Hall and continues with activities throughout the weekend. An alumni dinner-dance is scheduled for Saturday evening following the varsity soccer and volleyball games. Alumni interested in attending should contact Carol Gilbert, Director of Alumni Relations at 631-287-8348 or e-mail her at carol.gilbert@liu.edu.

For prospective students, transfer students and graduate students, registration for the weekend begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 28 in the Fine Arts Building. An Academic Information and Student Life Fair, a performance of Southampton's "Say Anything" improv theater group, brunch in Chester C. Wood Hall Dining Room, and a slide presentation on SEAmester, Southampton's program on board a 125-foot sailing schooner, are some of the events planned throughout the day.

Guests will have ample opportunity to gather information on academic programs, athletics, the honors program, and the new evening degree completion program. Professors from each academic division will be available to answer questions regarding programs in arts and media, business, humanities, education, social science, natural science, psychology/biology, environmental studies/environmental science, marine science, and the Friends World Program of study abroad. Graduate Program presentations include the MFA in Writing, the Graduate Education & Certification Program, the BS/MS in Accounting program, the new Masters in Business Administration, and the Gerontology Program.

Special presentations on the Macintosh Computer Lab for arts and media students, the Tropical Marine Biology travel course, job opportunities in the graphic design field, as well as a question and answer session on "Dealing with the First Year" are planned. Tours of the Book Store, the Avram Family Art Gallery, the Marine Station and the "Island Room" Technology Center will be available. In the afternoon, the women's varsity soccer and volleyball teams and the men's varsity soccer team have games scheduled. For a full schedule of events or more information about the Open House, contact Bernetta McCall, Director of Admissions, at 631-287-8340.
