The college's nationally recognized Natural Science Division ? which offers courses in Marine Science, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Geology, Mathematics and Physics - adds three professors: Visiting Assistant Professor Dr. Robert Pope, Assistant Professor Dr. Gaurav Khanna and Visting Instructor Laura Grassie. Joining the Social Science Division as KeySpan Distinguished Professor of Public Policy will be James Larocca, J.D. In the Education Division, Linda Bausch is a new instructor.

Dr. Robert Pope received his Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Mississippi. As a researcher for Mississippi's Naval Research Laboratory beginning in January 1999, Pope explored the role of bacteria in the process of marine corrosion of metals. Before that, Pope was a research fellow for three years for the American Cancer Society in Worcester, Mass. His studies included the genetic manipulation of cells.
Dr. Gaurav Khanna received his Ph.D. in Physics from Pennsylvania State University and has extensively studied aspects of theoretical and computational astrophysics, including black holes and gravitational waves. Described as a tireless researcher by past supervisors, Khanna's observatory work at Penn State may help lead to man's ability to detect gravitational waves, a newly discovered form of "light" with which to observe the universe. Laura Grassie will teach mathematics and is finishing her graduate work in Educational Technology at CW Post Campus of Long Island University. She has taught in Southampton College's Summer Technology Camp and worked in the College's state-of-the-art Technology Center.
James Larocca, a lawyer, business consultant and college professor who has served in three cabinet positions in New York State government and as President of the Long Island Association, will teach courses in the environment, coastal resource management, government and associated fiscal issues and public policy. Larocca, who successfully mediated the complex dispute over the Long Island Pine Barrens that produced the landmark Pine Barrens Preservation Act of 1993, serves as Chairman of the Board of the Long Island Nature Conservancy. Over the past 15 years he has served on both New York State commissions on coastal issues and shoreline erosion.
Linda Bausch received her Ed.D. in Reading, Language and Cognition from Hoftsra University. She has specialized in elementary education and early childhood education and will teach related courses at Southampton College. She has worked as a teacher for several Long Island schools, including Sachem, Cold Spring Harbor and LaSalle Military Academy.
