Distinguished Alumnus: Edward (Ted) Kratovil, B.A. '69, senior vice president of UST, Inc. with responsibility for worldwide government relations.

Valedictorian Studied Seal Behavior: Mary Beth Rew of Cortland, N.Y. Mary Beth is a Marine Science major who earned a perfect 4.0; last summer she completed an internship assisting in a behavioral study of the Antarctic Weddell Seals.

Fulbright Scholar to Study Sharks in Baja: John Richert of Walden, NY A Marine Science major, Richert is the 35th student from the College to earn a Fulbright for a year of graduate study. He will travel to Baja, Mexico to investigate yellow fin tuna, dolphins, hammerhead sharks, and great white sharks.

Graduation Pledge Alliance: Southampton College has joined more than 30 colleges and universities nationwide in supporting the Graduation Pledge Alliance. Graduates who opt to sign the pledge will wear a green ribbon at the May 21 ceremony, to signify they will take into account the environmental and social consequences of jobs they accept upon graduation.

Established by Long Island University in 1963, Southampton College has produced 34 Fulbright Scholars in the last 25 years, many from its nationally-recognized marine and environmental science programs. This small campus in the heart of the world-famous Hamptons is known for its writing and arts programs taught by many of the area's distinguished authors and artists, its programs in gerontology, its SEAmester aboard a traditional sailing ship, and its Friends World Program of global education for social change. Southampton is the location of WPBX 88.3 FM, flagship of the Long Island Public Radio Network.
