Southampton College hosts the Clothesline Project April 1-2 to remember women who were victims of violence and help survivors through the healing process.

On Saturday, April 1 from 1-4 p.m. in Chancellors Hall, a workshop will be held for those who would like to design a shirt as a tribute someone who died because of violence, or as an expression of the pain one went through due to sexual abuse, rape and battery. The public is invited to attend. The event is sponsored by campus group Womyn's Issues Collective.

On Sunday, April 2, starting at 10 a.m., people will hang the decorated shirts on a clothesline outside Chancellors Hall. At 2 p.m., Melissa Arch Walton will talk about the project and its purpose. At 3 p.m., gongs and bells will be set off to remember the 1400 women who are murdered by spouses and boyfriends each year, the women battered every 15 seconds and those who are raped, about one per minute, in the U.S.

For more information and a list of shirt guidelines, contact 287-8236.
