Freshman pitcher Kim Carroll threw a no-hitter Tuesday, March 28, as the Lady Colonials picked up their first win of the season. The former Walt Whitman High School ace was highly recruited after being named All Conference last year and posting an ERA of 1.64.

Carroll, who is from Melville, NY, only gave up one walk vs. five strikeouts as the Colonials downed non-league rival St. Joseph's 5-0. It was the home opener for the Colonials, who went 0-10 previously in a Spring Break tourney in Orlando, Fla., vs. non-league competition.

"Kim was hitting all the corners and keeping St. Joseph's batters off-balanced," said Southampton Coach Cindy Corwith. "Kim has six quality pitches and good control. She shows a lot of potential."

Stacia Semo of Carthage, NY, broke a 0-0 deadlock in the sixth inning with a bases-loaded bunt. Carroll's no-hitter was the first pitched by a Lady Colonial since 1991 when Audra Johnson accomplished the rare feat.
