Southampton, NY - Ever wonder what goes into starting a commercial bank? A businessman and a lawyer will talk about the ins-and-outs of creating a new bank, at the Business Center at Southampton College of Long Island University on Monday morning, December 11.

Ronald M. Krawczyk, president and CEO of the Hamptons State Bank, and Thomas E. Behringer, Jr., a Southampton attorney and Chairman of the Board of Hamptons State Bank, will offer their insights and experience in "How to Start a Bank," from 11:00 - 12:00 noon at the College's Business Center, Room 9. The talk is free and open to the public.

Krawczyk has an extensive background in banking, starting his career at Marine Midland in 1971 fresh out of Hofstra University with a B.B.A. He went on to earn a M.B.A. from St. John's University in 1977, and was affiliated with three other banks before joining The Bank of the Hamptons, N.A. as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in 1984. He became Executive Vice President of the Suffolk County National Bank after its merger with the Bank of the Hamptons in 1994 and held that slot until he resigned in 1997 to help form Hamptons State Bank. He has served as its President and C.E.O. since its inception in 1998.

Behringer has been an attorney in the Southampton area for almost 40 years, serving at different times as North Haven Village Attorney, Southampton Town Attorney, and Suffolk Co. Assistant District Attorney. He was a Director and General Counsel to the First National Bank of East Hampton and its successor, The Bank of the Hamptons from its inception in 1965 to its close of business in 1993. He was one of the original incorporators of Hamptons State Bank and has served as its Chairman since its inception in 1998.
