Bernetta C. McCall, who has worked in admissions at Drexel University for the past eight years, has been named Director of Admissions at Southampton College of Long Island University.

"Bernetta is an experienced and enthusiastic admissions professional who impressed us all with her ability to motivate and her adept managerial skills," said Michael Brophy, Associate Provost at the College. "We welcome her to Southampton and look forward to the many contributions she will undoubtedly bring to our College."

McCall has worked in the admissions profession for ten years, first at the University of Southern California at Los Angeles and then at Drexel University in Philadelphia where she is currently an Associate Director of International and Transfer Admissions. She earned her B.S. Degree in Mass Communications from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond in 1987 and is now a Master's candidate at Drexel in Publications Management.

Issues related to enrollment and retention of students of color and equity for women in higher education are of special interest to McCall.

"I truly believe you are at your best when what you do comes from the heart," said McCall. "I consider it both an honor and a privilege to guide prospective students through the exciting but sometimes daunting admissions process."

She has served the admissions profession as an active member of the Middle States Association of Collegiate Registrars and Officers of Admissions (MSACROA) since 1993. In 1997 and 1998, she served as Chairperson of the Minority Concerns Committee for MSACROA. She is currently an At-Large-Delegate and Chair of Evaluations for the Pennsylvania Association of Secondary School and College Admissions Counselors (PASSCAC). Last year at PASSCAC'S 36th Annual Conference, she received outstanding reviews for her presentation "7 Pragmatic Principles of Success." Other presentations she has given include:

An acoustic guitar player and dancer, McCall was once asked what she like best about herself and replied: "As a manager, my ability to see and bring out the best in others as I inspire them to be the best they can be."

McCall will begin as Director of Admissions on June 1. "I appreciate the hearty welcome that I've received from the Southampton community," said McCall. "I look forward to joining the staff."
