Southampton, NY - To meet the needs of a growing population of business professionals on the East End of Long Island, Southampton College of Long Island University will begin offering courses in September that lead to a Fast-Track MBA degree. The unique 42-credit curriculum allows graduate students to finish in 16 months by meeting just Thursday nights and Saturdays.

Licensed through Long Island University's Brentwood campus, students will have the choice of taking classes in Southampton or Brentwood, making study especially convenient for those who own second homes on the East End but whose primary residence is further west. For year-round East End residents, a free shuttle will be provided during occasional instances when students are required to attend a seminar in Brentwood.

The creation of the Fast-Track MBA (Master of Business Administration) program at Southampton College came after a recent survey by the Division of Professional Studies that said up to 30 percent of East End adults have undergraduate degrees. Many of them work in fields where an MBA would help advance their careers such as commerce, management or administration. "We found that a lot of local residents were traveling far up-Island to get their MBA degrees," said Department Chair Dr. Herb Sherman. "We've enlisted some of our best professors and hope to not only be a more convenient alternative, but a real asset to local businesspeople and their companies."

Applications are currently being accepted for this fall term. Courses include Financial Accounting for Managers, Managerial Communications, Marketing Strategy and Organizational Behavior. Students will be eligible for full-time financial aid and textbooks are provided free. Considering the seasonal economy of Eastern Long Island, the Fast-Track MBA program eases up in the summer to a two-course workload.
