Fax: (631) 283 4081After 50 years of productions, "Guys and Dolls" debuts on the Southampton College stage April 6-8 and 13-16, 2000. The Southampton Players season finale features a cast of Southampton College students, alumni and community members.
This bright musical fable, based upon the characters created by Damon Runyon, has maintained its magic and effervescence, gleefully delighting audiences for half a century. The story was written by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. Frank Loesser's lilting musical score soars with enthusiasm and includes the memorable numbers, "A Bushel and a Peck," "Guys and Dolls," "I've Never Been in Love Before," "Luck Be A Lady," and "Sit down, You're Rockin' the Boat."
"Guys and Dolls" follows the amorous antics of characters who have become synonymous with musical theater. Leading the cast of thirty includes Hope Pulick and Chuck Novatka (as Sarah Brown and Sky Masterson), and Tegue DeLeon and Gemma Breithaupt (as Nathan Detroit and Miss Adelaide). Music is by members of Big Band East.
Rounding out the cast are Jennifer Baranowski, Meghan Bishop, Lisa Burrascano, Kelly Carman, Val Chamberlain, Paul Conroy, Avery Crocker, Vincent Doty, Anne Esguerra, Abigail Flynn, Eric Fuerderer, Daniel Hart, Dina Kahnovitch, Anthony King, Shaun Knight, Julie Koplan, Ted Lapides, Lara Lieberman, Katrina McCauley, Lisa McCluskey, Joao Montgiro, Nick Regester, Tom Rosante, Jeff Schaeffer, Rich Schneider and Jackie Townsend.
Direction and choreography is by Michael Disher, with musical direction by Dan Koontz. Design supervision is by Chris Lombardo with scenic art by Kasia Dabrowska.
"Guys and Dolls" will be presented April 6-8 and 13-16 at 8 p.m. in the Avram Theater located in the Fine Arts Building at Southampton College of Long Island University. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. For reservations, call the Southampton Players at (631) 287-8480.
