Fax: (631) 283 4081Southampton, NY - Graphic design works created by Southampton College alumni will be exhibited at The Avram Gallery October 2 through October 28. A reception for the artists, which is open to the public, is scheduled for Saturday, October 28 during Homecoming 2000 weekend.
Alumni artists whose work will be displayed include John Erickson, Wook Sun Chang, John Einemann and Takashi Asai. The Alumni Invitational graphic design exhibit will be the first to be hung in the recently-renovated Avram Gallery in the Fine Arts Building.
John Erickson (1997) returned to the College this fall as Coordinator of the Graphic Design Laboratory, and is teaching the Fine Arts Division. His professional career started long before he earned his degree; his last job in New York City before moving back to Southampton was Senior Art Director for Toolbox, the ad agency. His client list included M&M Mars, Swiss World Airlines, Landrover and BMW Motorcycles, among others. Pieces from his print campaigns, direct mail and posters are among those that will be on display.
Graphic designer John Einemann, currently with the firm Curran and Connors, Inc. in New York, specializing in annual reports and corporate literature, Prof. Wook Sun Chang (1988) teaching in the Department of Visual Arts at Hoseo University in South Korea, and Takashi Asai (1992), now Art Director at Chase Global Mutual Funds Group in New York City, will also have their work featured at the Avram.
"Organizing the exhibit to display the talents and work of each graphic artist poses a unique set of challenges," said Gallery Director Beth Giles. "This is a new and different kind of show for us, and the first in our expanded gallery space."
The work of these designers will be on display starting October 2; gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 12:00-5:00 p.m. and by appointment. The graphic artists' reception will take place Saturday, October 28, 5 - 7 p.m., scheduled to coincide with the College's Homecoming 2000 and Open House weekend. Call (631) 287-8234 for additional information or questions on the Alumni Invitational exhibit or reception.
Open House activities are open to anyone interested in the campus and will offer excellent opportunities to learn first-hand about Southampton's programs, including special presentations Saturday at the Macintosh Computer Lab for arts and media students, job opportunities in the graphic design field and tours of the "Island Room" Technology Center. For more information on Southampton's Homecoming 2000 and Open House, call the Director of Admissions at (631) 287-8340.
