Tuition and Scholarships


A critical aspect of graduate education is meeting the cost of your studies. For this reason, Long Island University at Riverhead and the Homeland Security Management Institute are committed to making every effort to work with you to bring about an affordable graduate education. Accordingly, all students are evaluated for scholarship upon application to their program of study.

SPECIAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR HOMELAND SECURITY MANAGEMENT STUDENTS

One-Third Tuition Discount Scholarship - Students who are in the M.S. in Homeland Security Management or Advanced Certificate in Homeland Security Management program may qualify for a one-third tuition discount scholarship if they are employed by a federal, state or a municipal employer. This discount scholarship is also available to certain union members. It is best to check with the Admissions Office (joyce.tuttle@liu.edu; 631-287-8010) regarding the specific details and criteria, as well as for the necessary verification of employment for this discount.

Department of Homeland Security Scholarship for 2007-2008 – Thanks to a special grant from the Department of Homeland Security, students enrolled for this academic period may be qualified for an additional graduate scholarship.  Details are available through the Office of Admission.

Detective First Grade C. Lydia Martinez Memorial Scholarship – This privately-administered scholarship is awarded annually to an active member of the NYPD who is admitted to a Homeland Security Management Institute graduate-level program and whose career and personal life reflects the exceptional integrity, depth of character, professional commitment, passion for justice, and selfless dedication to the highest ideals and principles by which the late Detective First Grade C. Lydia Martinez lived her life.  Contact HSMI’s Program Director for information concerning the application process.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT SCHOLARSHIPS:  There are no separate applications for Long Island University institutional scholarships. Scholarships are determined at the time of admission and are considered for only one of the above-mentioned scholarships. In order to maintain scholarship eligibility from year-to-year a student must remain in good academic standing. New York State residents may apply for the New York State Tuition Assistance Program. Student loans are available to eligible students. IMPORTANT NOTE: In order to receive any institutional scholarship, all students must file the FAFSA – www.fafsa.ed.gov– No award will be finalized until the FAFSA is on file.

COST OF STUDY

Graduate tuition for the 2007-2008 academic year is $835 per credit. There is a University Fee of $525 per semester for full-time students (12 credits or more); $230 for part-time students (5-11 credits); $110 for part-time students (1-4 credits). Additional expenses for students may include books, special fees for specific courses and University fees.
