| A Bergey Windpower 10KWH wind turbine that
supplies electricity as an alternative energy source was installed
near the Montauk dormitory complex in spring 2002. The
project was funded through the U.S. Department of Energy in
cooperation with the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA). In
addition to generating electricity, the cutting-edge environmental
technology provides faculty and students with an opportunity
to do research on this important alternative energy supply. |
The Greenprint is a dynamic, campus-based campaign to integrate practices,
environmental curriculum and community outreach activities through
an overriding theme of environmental awareness and protection.
Adopted in 1994, The Greenprint is a work in progress by groups
of dedicated students and faculty who are committed to the environment.
On-going efforts include expansion of the campus recycling program,
plans for an Ecologically Engineered Sewerage System, expanding
on-campus energy conservation, and a proposal for a new Center for
Environmental Leadership. In recent years, Greenprint has sponsored
a new wind turbine that helps power our dorms and hired a new environmental
coordinator to promote recycling and energy conservation on campus.
