Life Experience Portfolios
Life Experience credits are credits received for learning experience outside of university. Many Friends World students have done a lot of active living and learning before attending FW, so many students end up doing a Portfolio for Life Experience credits. The process is similar to that of a normal Portfolio, although the Learning Plan is obviously modified, since the learning has already happened in the past. The student's Learning is divided up into credit areas and "courses," as for the CREDIT BREAKDOWN section of the Learning Plan (section A.2.g). The learning is documented as determined between the student and her advisor (see section D for DIFFERENT STYLES OF DOCUMENTATION). The Portfolio is handed in according to the timetable worked out in advance, and evaluated by the advisor for credits.
No more than 60 credits may be obtained by documenting Life Experience. (A student would probably need to have lived a really extraordinary life to get even that many.) Remember that the documentation is for the learning gotten from experience, not just for the experience itself.
