Stress and Stress Management
I have never heard of a Friends World student (or faculty or staff member) who went through a year without a certain level of stress. Growing hurts, and learning is hard, and life is confusing, even when it's going well. Becoming a critical thinker and a conscious learner just makes the strain more obvious, it seems.
Students need to share their stress-relief ideas:
- music
- painting
- pillow-punching
- meditation
- kissing
- drinking (not the healthiest, but used by many)
- eating good food
- aikido
- primal scream therapy
- counting to ten (or twenty, or a hundred)
- leaving the scene
- sleeping (although see below)
- jogging
- yoga
- walks in the woods
- prayer
- blowing bubbles
- disco dancing
- origami
- knitting
- writing in a diary
- talking to a friend or loved one
- walking a dog
- playing a drum
- going fishing
- window shopping
- gardening
- chopping vegetables with a really sharp knife
- funny movies
- kneading dough
- etc. etc. etc.
Sleeping is one that is easy to overdo. Sleep is important, but it's also an easy escape from reality that often gets you more behind and frustrated. Be careful in exactly the same way with alcohol and other drugs.

AAAAAGGGHHHH!
- First do the count-to-ten exercise, then pick something that relaxes you, and do it.
