We hope that students and parents will take advantage of
the information and helpful hints provided on this website to
navigate the roads they must travel in order to receive financial
aid funding. The website provides a direct link to the federal
Internet site that contains the Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA), which is the core application used to apply for financial
aid at Long Island University. Click on the "Applying for
Financial Aid" option on the Homepage. Students are required
to complete the FAFSA on-line, and this electronic process is
extremely user-friendly and will greatly assist families to move
through the financial aid process with the least difficulties.
The federal school code for the FAFSA appears above and will insure
that the application is received by the Brooklyn Campus, which
will be administering financial aid for the Friends World Students.
The electronic FAFSA information is required of all students
seeking Friends World Scholarships or Grants, federal financial
aid, or tuition remission benefits. All students, regardless of
financial circumstances are urged to complete the FAFSA.
Some important information for all continuing students in the
Friends World Program (those matriculated by the spring 2005 semester)
includes that their completed and valid FAFSA must be sent electronically
to Long Island University by March 15, 2005. This is
the deadline date for consideration of the maximum federal campus-based
financial aid. Applicants who meet this deadline date may expect
to receive financial aid award notices in a timely manner, and thus
will be able to negotiate their bill clearance with the Bursars
Office before leaving the United States to begin their program abroad.
Entering students who will be admitted to the Friends World
Program for the first time, have a rolling deadline date for receipt
of FAFSA information and should check with the Office of Student
Financial Services shortly after receiving their acceptance notification
to the Program. However, they are also urged to complete the FAFSA
as soon as possible in order to be advised of all of their financial
resources before leaving the United States.
Federal campus-based financial aid is limited and is
awarded on a first-come-first-serve basis to students meeting the
March 15th deadline date, and includes the Federal SEOG
Program, and Federal Perkins Loans.
To be eligible for the federal and state financial aid programs,
a student must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and must
also be New York State residents to apply for the Tuition Assistance
Program (TAP). Students must be matriculated in their programs of
study, and, for campus-based financial aid, must enroll as full-time
students taking a minimum of 12 credits each term. Financial aid
is awarded with the expectation that students make satisfactory
academic progress towards their degree objective, which includes
staying in classes throughout the term, timely submission of the
Portfolio of Learning and remaining in good academic standing.
Visiting students should inquire about a Consortium Agreement
between Long Island University and their home institutions in order
to receive any federal financial aid. The Consortium Agreement form
is available on-line under the "Brochures, Forms and Other
Links" option of the Office of Student Financial Services
Website.
Long Island University Scholarships and
Grants:
The Friends World Program offers several scholarship and
grant programs that are based on previous experiences and the
quality of work completed. Although the Scholastic Aptitude Test
(SAT) and the American College Test (ACT) are not required for
acceptance into the Friends World Program, one of the two is
required to qualify for Friends World, Long Island University
Scholarships.
The scholarship and grant programs include the Merit, Service
and Global Citizen Scholarships, and eligibility for these awards
is determined at the time of a students admission to the
Program. Federal FAFSA information is also required of all scholarship
recipients before these awards appear on financial aid award notices
or before they are credited toward bill payment.
