What does the Registrar do?
The Registrar is responsible for all student academic records, past
and present. This office performs student registration, processes and sends transcripts,
receives paperwork regarding grade changes, drops/withdrawals, medical
withdrawals, and graduation applications.
What is Registration?
Registration is the processing of signing up for your next semester
classes. The first step is to see your advisor and choose which classes
best fit your needs. The next step would be to see the bursar and
make sure your bill is cleared. Finally, you return your registration
card to the Registrars Office at your scheduled allotted time
(based on your current amount of credits, which does not count the
number of credits in process).
What if I register for a class and then don't
want to take it?
Students may drop classes at any time during the "drop"
period without academic penalty. See the Academic Calendar for dates.
After the "drop" period you may still withdraw from a
course up until the 6th week of classes. A withdrawal
will be listed on your transcript with a "W" but not calculated
in your GPA. Financial charges may vary depending on your enrollment
status, please check with a Bursar representative. To drop/withdraw
from a class you will need to pick up a green Add/Drop form from
the Registrars Office, fill it out and have it signed by your
advisor. Then return it to the Registrars office.
What is a transcript?
A transcript is an official document that lists all a students
classes, credits, honors and grades. Many employers and Universities
will require one if you are trying to transfer, apply for a scholarship
or get a job. You can obtain an unofficial transcript for free,
but most organizations will require an official transcript. This
will be mailed in a sealed envelope and carry the seal of the college
on the transcript itself. Envelopes should remain sealed until they
have reached their final destination.
How do I obtain a transcript?
Students may request transcripts online, by phone, or in person.
Please visit our transcript site for further information http://www.southampton.liu.edu/trans/
How can I tell what classes have transferred
in from my other schools?
All transfer classes and credits are listed at the beginning of
your Long Island University transcript. No grades will be transferred
only credits. Students may transfer a maximum of 68 credits from
a 2-year school and 98 from a 4-year school upon entering Riverhead.
Once a student begins study at Long Island University he/she may transfer in
a maximum of 9 credits (6 in the major) as long as the student has
been granted prior approval, please see your advisor or the Registrars
office. Only grades of C or better will transfer unless a degree
is awarded from that school.

How do I apply for graduation?
All students are required to complete an application for graduation
in the semester they plan to complete their degree. For more information
please visit http://www.southampton.liu.edu/enroll/registrar/
What if my instructor gave me a grade I
dont think I deserve?
If you truly believe that you deserve a different grade you should
first check with the instructor to see how the grade was calculated.
After that if you still feel the issue is unresolved you may go
to the Division Director for an appeal, then the Academic Dean.
You must be prepared to prove your position for a better grade.
How do I get a grade change on my
transcript?
If an instructor agrees to change a students grade he/she
will submit a grade change form to the registrars office.
What is a challenge exam?
All matriculated students may challenge a course to receive credit
towards a degree at Long Island University. The student must complete the petition
for a challenge exam by obtaining permission from the instructor
proctoring the exam, the academic advisor, division director and
the academic dean, as well as pay the $50.00 fee to the Bursars
office. Students who pass the exam receive both credit and a grade.
Students may challenge up to 60 credits.
