Co-ops -- career related
work opportunities -- are available in every major. Through the co-op
program, you can earn academic credit and often a salary while working
at a job related to your studies. Credits earned through Co-op placements
count towards the degree requirement. Students may include up to 18
Co-op credits in their 128 credit degree requirement.
A staff of trained counselors
will work with you to choose the placement that gives you the best
possible career preparation. Southampton co-op students have held
jobs in 32 states and 17 foreign countries. Eighty percent have
received offers of permanent employment from their co- op employers.
Experience is what gives co-op students the competitive edge.

how it
works
Credits for Co-op are
based on the number of hours spent on the job. Students are expected
to work a minimum of 12 weeks in a semester, except during Wintersession,
when they work for 5 weeks.

Wintersession Co-ops
must be full-time and carry 1 -- 2 credits. A full-time co-op during
Summer session may be taken for either 3 or 6 credits. Many students
do more than one Co-op. Co-op is graded on a Pass/Fail basis, based
in part on a successful evaluation by the on-site supervisor and
completion of a final paper, which is graded by a faculty sponsor.
