Advanced Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis Course Sequence (BACB® approved)

Long Island University at Riverhead is pleased to offer a graduate Advanced Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). This 24 credit certificate program is designed to prepare special educators to become Board Certified Behavior Analysts by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board® Inc. (BACB®). Board Certification as a behavior analyst (BCBA) is internationally recognized as verification of extensive training and practice in the field of behavior analysis, which is both an applied science and a service-based profession designed to meet the behavioral needs of diverse populations.

Students are required to complete 225 hours of graduate coursework (24 credits). Content areas include: basic behavior analytic principles, application of behavior analytic principles, single subject research methods, issues related to ethical/professional standards, as well as additional hours in application of behavioral principles to specific populations (e.g. Autism, Down Syndrome, Mental Retardation). The coursework in addition to 750 hours of supervised or mentored experience working with students with special needs is required to qualify for taking the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) examination.

Practicum: Students who plan to sit for the BCBA® exam must complete supervised experience in behavior analysis. Long Island University at Riverhead plans to make available courses that provide the supervision to complete this BCBA® certification practicum requirement.

The Advanced Certificate courses have been pre-approved by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board® (BACB®) and meet the 225 hour coursework requirement for taking the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Examination.
