The
program in English and Writing is one of Southampton's best known.
Full-time faculty include nationally distinguished authors such
as essayist and television commentator Roger Rosenblatt and novelist
Indira Ganesan. All full-time faculty are widely published as writers
and scholars.
The B.A. in English and Writing offers an option of concentrating
in either writing or literature. The writing concentration explores
various forms of creative expression through course work in fiction,
poetry, prose, journalism and drama. The literature concentration
focuses primarily on American, English and Continental literature.
Prospective teachers of English can combine this major concentration
with a Secondary Education minor to prepare them to sit for the
New York State Teacher Cetification Examination.
The summer writers conference includes a nationally distinguished
faculty of authors and is open to all students. A variety of Cooperative
Education and internship
opportunities are also available.
