Southampton Graduate Campus-Middlebridge Exchange Program

Middle School Tutoring is in Southampton This Summer!
Summertime is when city classrooms give way to relaxed days at the beach. Days are longer and pass more slowly. It’s a great time for relaxed learning, experiencing new interests and acquiring new talents. It’s a wonderful time for middle school students to fill a few gaps or to stretch themselves a bit.

The Middlebridge Exchange, New York’s only tutoring service solely devoted to the middle school child, is coming from Manhattan this summer to offer the following workshops:

WRITING WORKSHOPS
For students entering 5th & 6th grades
What’s in a Paragraph?

Basic writing skills begin with this seminar. Even when they know their subject well, middle schoolers often have difficulty organizing thoughts and committing them to paper. At the end of this seminar your child will know how to formulate a clear topic sentence, identify a variety of details with strong supporting sentences, devise a logical concluding sentence, and, along the way, build a greater command of language.

For students entering 6th & 7th grades
The Essentials of Essay Writing

"Write on essay on…" is one of the most frequent assignments given in middle school. It may be feared but can become a joyous experience. In this small group, students quickly absorb the basics of writing an essay and begin developing their own personal style. They learn how to compose a clear introductory paragraph, develop the body of the text, add transition sentences and finish with a cogent, satisfying conclusion.

For students entering 8th & 9th grades
Getting a Handle on the High School Essay

This workshop introduces your child to different types of expository writing including the descriptive and persuasive essay. It covers the rudiments of writing a 150-word essay including the essential skills for prioritizing supportive information as well as editing and revising – all with voice, color and sophistication.

Creative Writing

One of the most fulfilling experiences a student can have is to dream a dream, commit it to paper and feel its effects upon readers. Middle school children in the first throes of adolescence need and like to express themselves. As they approach high school they begin to feel and think about what it means to "really" grow up. Run by a truly gifted teacher, this workshop gives these students much needed opportunity to express themselves through the creative writing process.

MATH WORKSHOPS
For students entering 4th-10th grades
Building Mathematics

A student who has not mastered division in fourth grade will be unable to master fractions in fifth. The child who did not understand negative numbers in middle school will be unable to do algebra in high school. Each step in math leads to the next. A missed step stops progress cold. Our unique Mathematics Diagnostic Evaluation will identify any gaps your child may have and determine the appropriate workshop placement that will address your child’s individual/particular needs.

For students entering 7th, 8th & 9th grades
Logic 101

Whether it’s geometry, chemistry or even history, success depends on a student’s reasoning ability. We offer this exciting enrichment course in critical thinking to enhance problem solving skills.
